Just because my path is different, doesn’t mean I’m lost
So I’ve got a blog now. I’m still not sure what exactly I want to write about, so please bear with me while I figure it out.
Maybe I should start with an explanation.
One year ago I had specific plans for my future. University, boring desk job, children, buying a house etc. Nothing too scary or unexpected, just like the normal game of life goes.
To make it short: I traveled through Southeast Asia for 3 months and got bitten by the travelbug.
At this time I started thinking about what I want from life. I made many decisions because I was scared and they felt safe, I didn’t want to take risks or step out of my comfort zone. Or maybe I was just lazy.
When I got back home I wanted to leave again. So I did. I worked hard, saved as much money as I could, just to be back on a plane by March.
I’ve realised that I only got this one life. And I know there are so many people who think they have to live according to some invisible timeline. That the clock is ticking. But what time are we wasting, if we spend it doing things that make us happy! When you love your life and are excited about waking up every day, instead of sitting at a desk, looking at the clock every 5 minutes, waiting to get home.
Often I get to hear the question at what time I’ll start doing something useful with my life. But who decides what is useful and what isn’t? Who decides when’s the right time to do things? And who says that life is just about work, making a career and earning money?
Most of the problems we are facing today are because of money, greed and selfishness.
An international survey shows that for young people between 18 and 35, climate change and the destruction of our environment are the biggest issues of today.
There’s a big chance that in about 20 years this planet won’t exist anymore and knowing this makes money and work become less important.
We should stop worrying about having gaps in our CV. Life doesn’t always go smoothly and neatly and sometimes a break from your routine is exactly what you need. It doesn’t matter what you do, you learn, you grow. There are no gaps in your life.
